RCIA classes

For those of you who don't know, my husband is Catholic. I'm Lutheran. My faith has waivered some over the years, particularly after my mother's death in 1992, but I've always held onto it. I had to during my first marriage. I had to believe that I'd get out of the situation ahead of where I started it. And I have, despite the loss of my son. I'm in a better place.

Anyway, I've begun taking Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) classes at the church my husband belongs to. We both believe our daughter should be raised with a religious foundation. My husband is more deep with his Catholic faith than I am with my Lutheran. So, I'm taking these classes, exploring the option of converting. I already know I have issues with the sacrament of confession. I've been raised I've got a direct link to God, I don't need to use a go between to confess and ask for forgiveness.

So, tonight, as an introductory lesson we were given a brief overview of the various religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, etc. And the discussion came up as to whether Islam's are correct in waging their holy war against Christians. Is there different versions of the truth? Christians believe Islam is wrong, Islam believes vice versa. Which is correct? Is it possible that all are correct? Or is there only one absolute truth?

The priest seemed to imply that there was only one truth, but I don't know that I believe that. Aren't there different shades of truth even among Christians.

My ex tried to tell me that God wouldn't forgive me for divorcing him. But wasn't the safety and well being of my children an important factor in the equation? Would God have wanted me to sit there while drug dealers were knocking on my door looking for my ex? While cops came to my house at 4am, harassing me because they didn't believe my ex no longer lived at our house? Do I feel bad that I divorced my ex. Yes, I can't say how badly I feel for that, because I truly intended to keep my word when I made that promise to God and in front of 100+ witnesses to love, honor and cherish him.

I plan on talking to my husband about the issue of complete truth over the weekend, but he's sleeping now and it's heavy on my mind. If one class into this I'm already having doubts I don't know if I can cast aside I fear I'm doomed!

That's my ramble for the evening. I'm sure I'll have more next week after class. Night!

Fall and new TV season

It's fall and that means TV! Now, there are a few shows I enjoy during the summer, including The Closer, The Dead Zone and The 4400. I enjoy Monk whenever I can catch it and Psych was good too.

The show I'm looking forward to most is Veronica Mars, which will premier its Season 3 October 3. If you haven't checked out this show I highly recommend it. DVD sets for Seasons 1 and 2 are available NOW. Check it out, it's a great show with Gilmore Girls as its lead-in this year.

Other shows I'm watching (or planning to watch): BONES, SMITH, SHARK, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, UGLY BETTY, HEROES, NUMB3RS, CSI (original), LOST.

I tried watching How I Met Your Mother again this season and just don't enjoy it. Same with The Class. I'll probably continue watching them when I catch them, but they're off my TiVo season pass list.

I'll catch up on last season of Gilmore Girls and Smallville on DVD during the season.

Things on Days Of Our Lives are getting good for the first time in a long, long time. A new writer has added some fresh blood to the soap I've been watching for 26 years and I feel it being rejuvinated. Yay!

Good morning!

Well, the Pack pulled out a win this weekend to bring their record to 1-2. Granted, it was against the Lions but we'll take whatever we can get. It's gonna be one of those seasons, I can tell. Favre was impressive with close to 400 yards and a few TD passes.

Lee & I went to a friend's wedding Friday night. I'll post a picture of us below. We don't get too many pictures taken of us together, I'm usually the one behind the camera. A former co-worker of ours got married. It was a small but nice wedding held at the local VFW, the band that happened to be playing that night was great and played lots of songs for the wedding which was nice.

Stephanie got a $15 tip for a party she worked over the weekend at work, so that was nifty. She spent Saturday night at a friend's house for her Sweet 16 party, they did a bon fire and stuff. She was off school yesterday and went to see a movie. Always busy at that age!

Claire got her first haircut last week. She did great, didn't squirm or anything. The woman put her hair in a little ponytail on top of her head, which was cute.

I was busy over the writing with some of my fan fictions, got a couple older incomplete fics completed. I hate seeing that WIP sit there for so long. Head on over to my fan fiction site if you're interested.

Have a good Tuesday!

0-2 or 1-1?

The Pack have the Saints this week, we'll see in a few hours if they can pull out a win at Lambeau. I'll list my picks for all of this week's games below. The Tigers are doing the ChiSox a favor by losing so even though they're losing, too, they're still in the running for at least a Wild Card. The Cubs, well, there's always next year!

It rained the night of Homecoming so the football game didn't start until 9pm, when it was slated to end. Stephanie and her friends blew off most of the game to go to the dance. It sounds like they had fun, though.

I'm at over 11,000 words on SHARON'S ESCAPE, it's really fun to write. So, I'm excited.

That's it for me today. Have a good one! Here are my football picks for this week.

Buffalo at Miami 1:00 p.m. Buffalo

Carolina at Minnesota 1:00 p.m. Minnesota (unfortunately)

Cleveland at Cincinnati 1:00 p.m. Cincinnati

Detroit at Chicago 1:00 p.m. Chicago

Houston at Indianapolis 1:00 p.m. Indianapolis

New Orleans at Green Bay 1:00 p.m. Green Bay (they’re at home, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt)

N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia 1:00 p.m. Philadelphia

Oakland at Baltimore 1:00 p.m. Baltimore

Tampa Bay at Atlanta 1:00 p.m. Atlanta

Arizona at Seattle 4:05 p.m. Arizona

St. Louis at San Francisco 4:05 p.m. San Francisco

Kansas City at Denver 4:15 p.m. Denver (sorry John)

New England at N.Y. Jets 4:15 p.m. New England

Tennessee at San Diego 4:15 p.m. San Diego

Washington at Dallas 8:15 p.m. Washington (this one will be close I think, they’re always tough though)

Monday, Sep. 18

Pittsburgh at Jacksonville 8:30 p.m. Pittsburgh

TGIF!

It's been a busy week. I have managed to get over 7500 words written on SHARON'S ESCAPE and I'm still going strong. So I'm excited about that.

Claire has taken to removing her diaper this week. I think it was more an attention thing than anything else. I'd react, of course, so she kept doing it. She's also ceased with the naps. She sits in her crib and is quiet, pages through some of her books or what have you, but it makes for a cranky toddler when Lee gets home from work after 6pm.

Stephanie had Homecoming tonight. She and a bunch of friends are going to the dance, it doesn't sound like any of them have dates. They're all dressed casually. Stephanie says that's how it is. I feel like such an idiot, but I'm going to say it anyway. "When I was in high school, you got spiffied up when you went to Homecoming." I guess things have changed. Or her friends are wrong and they'll all be embarrassed, though I doubt they'd really care knowing the group she hangs out with.

Lee and I both work tomorrow, not a normal occurrence around here so it'll be a busy weekend.

That's it for tonight!

Updates done!

Just a quick note before I dash off to do my five pages of writing for the day. I also needed to get started on the serial I plan to post on my writing journey blog, I'm kind of excited to explore Amanda's friend a bit more than I did in the manuscript.

I've finished most of the updates and tweaks to my site I wanted to get done. I did a lot of shifting and organizing to (hopefully) make things easier to find and navigate. I created frames for my fan fiction index page so the fandoms will always stay on top. I moved my links pertaining to books, reading, authors, etc. to the books section of my site. I'm in the process of going through the authors pages to be sure the links are current. I should be done with that by the end of the month. Let me know what you think of the changes if you check it out.

I guess that's it for tonight, pretty boring I guess. I couldn't tell you what exactly I've done today but it sure seems like I was busy all day.

Twice in one day...oh my!

The Packers were pretty well destroyed by the Bears 26-0, it's not often Favre doesn't at least get 1 TD toss. The Packers looked pretty atrocious while the Bears were looking just the opposite. We'll have better luck on New Year's Eve.

I took Claire for a walk down the block this afternoon. She's an outdoor girl and starts getting testy if she's indoors all day. This is in addition to the testiness of just being two! I managed to get stung by a bee on the side of my foot just by my big toe. Ouch!

I'm an auntie again. My brother and his wife had their third son in less than 4 years (the oldest will be 4 in December). Little Luke was born today and was 8#, 9 oz., 21". I can't wait to see him!

I haven't been reading as much this month as I did in July and August. I'm currently reading: THE PIRATE HUNTER: Jennifer Ashley a historical pirate romance. July & August I averaged around 1 book a day, but no such luck in September. Call it a slump, but I have been busy updating my web site and actually doing some writing again now that I had an epiphany about one of the heroines I'm writing. You can read about my writing experiences on my other blog: http://susanefalk.blogspot.com

To see what books I've read, plan on reading next, books to trade, books to be read, books I want, my reviews, etc. visit the books section of my site: http://www.phantomroses.com/apckrfan/books

I attended the first meeting for the local writing chapter I belong to of Romance Writers of America: Midwest Fiction Writers yesterday. It was nice to put faces to names I've seen on the email loop and to realize that I'm really not the only one struggling to get published. It's about 570 miles round trip, but I hope to make more of the meetings.
