4/15/1985:
After fighting off painful cramps in both legs while negotiating Heartbreak Hill, Geoff Smith of Great Britain repeats as the men's winner of the Boston Marathon. A heavy favorite in the race and already enjoying a big lead, Smith momentarily stopped to walk off his discomfort before resuming his quest for the laurel wreath. Lisa Weidenbach of Battle Creek, Michigan, wins the women's division.
