Sports Fact of the Day 4/10/2007
4/10/1982:
North Carolina's top-ranked lacrosse team rallies from a three-goal deficit with only eight minutes left in the game to defeat second-ranked Johns Hopkins, 13-12, in sudden-death overtime at Homewood Field in Baltimore, where the Blue Jays hadn't lost in four years. Late goals by Jeff Homire, Mike Burnett and Brent Voelkel enable UNC to draw even with 1:43 left in regulation, and Dave Wingate's sixth goal of the game wins it in OT before an overflow crowd of 10,000. The Tar Heels will complete an undefeated season and win their second straight national title when they beat Johns Hopkins again, 7-5, in the NCAA tournament final next month.
