Sports Fact of the Day 4/12/2007
4/12/1948:
An unheralded chestnut colt named Saggy upsets the great Citation in the six-furlong Chesapeake Trial at Havre de Grace, Maryland. Riding his valuable mount cautiously, Eddie Arcaro holds Citation off the brisk pace at the outset and can't make up the difference at the wire as Saggy wins by a length. It will be Citation's only loss in 20 starts in 1948. He'll win the Triple Crown, Horse of the Year honors and over $700,000 in purses.
