Stop motion: Copenhagen Sleepwalker

I viewed this video while working, and it’s really quite neat … Check it out! I copy/pasted the about portion, but the video is at the link below.

About Copenhagen Sleepwalker

nikon-d70.jpgCopenhagen Sleepwalker is an experiment with stop motion and pixilation.

It took more than 1500 digital pictures to make the three minute long Copenhagen Sleepwalker.

The images were captured by a Nikon D70 – a D-SLR camera – and NOT a real video camera. Of course the D-SLR camera was placed on a tripod.

The film was shot in March 2007 on location in Copenhagen and it was quite a cold experience for Lennart Falk whom played the sleepwalker

It took three nights to get all the shots right and it was a real challenge because of the long exposure time. Outside the sleepwalker had to stand still for several seconds otherwise the picture would get to dark and you wouldn’t be able to see the illuminated buildings in the background.

The camera flash was used in some of the shots, for example when the sleepwalker gets personal with The Little Mermaid.

The editing was a bit painful because ALL of the pictures had to be resized and we added some borders to them as well. All in all many hours of work. There is probably a much easier way to do this right.

We used Photoshop to create the effect of the sleepwalker losing his head. It was actually a quite simple process which only took about an hour to make.

thepentups.jpgThe music and sound effects for Copenhagen Sleepwalker is composed by Jes Schyum. He plays keyboard, guitar, electronics and other instruments in the act The Pentups, which of course has its own site at Myspace.com. Listen to more of his work right here.

We didn’t use any kind of Blue or Green Screen. The scene with the anchorman who gets hit in the head by a paper flyer is created in Photoshop. First we created a CCN shell and manually placed the anchorman in the “studio”.

The Sleepwalker Lennart Falk actually walked around the streets of Copenhagen in pyjamas. We got many comments from pedestrians who were puzzled. Some thought we were shooting a commercial for a pyjamas company - others just said: “That’s not normal, guys”.
