Sports Fact of the Day 4/4/2007

4/4/1960:
Trying to add one more big bat to their 1959 pennant-winning lineup, the Chicago White Sox pay dearly to acquire slugging first basement Roy Sievers from the Washington Senators. In exchange, the ChiSox part with catching prospect Early Battey and young first baseman Don Mincher. While Sievers will perform well in the short term for Chicago with a .295 batting average over two seasons, Battey will win three Gold Gloves and play in five All-Star Games over the next eight and Mincher will belt out an even 200 home runs over a steady 13-year career with several clubs.
