4/2/1997:
Yankee first baseman Tino Martinez crashes three homers against his former team as New York demolishes Seattle, 16-2, at the Kingdome. Martinez homers his first three times up, all against the Mariners’ Scott Sanders. The affable slugger gets four more at bats but fails to connect on a fourth homer. He scores five runs, drives in seven, and is off and running on a 44-homer, 141-RBI campaign, both career bests.
