Sports Fact of the Day 4/21/2007
(This is a sad one! He was a nice looking guy, too.)
4/21/1951:
Bill Barilko's goal at 2:53 of sudden-death overtime gives the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 win over Montreal and the Stanley Cup in five games, all of which required sudden death to decide. The term "sudden death" will take on a somber new meaning later this summer when the 24-year-old Barilko disappears on a hunting trip. The wreckage of his plane will be discovered in 1962 in the remote environs of northern Ontario.
