Sports Fact & Book Rec of the Day 6/12/2007

6/12/1922:
Feasting on a forlorn Phillies pitching staff, the St. Louis Cardinals put together 10 straight base hits in the sixth inning on their way to a 14-8 romp at Baker Bowl. Anchoring the Redbird onslaught is Rogers Hornsby, who has a perfect day at the plate, four-for-four with two walks, including a double and a home run. Hornsby's productive afternoon helps him become the first National Leaguer in the 20th century to hit .400. He'll finish at .401, winning his third of six successive batting titles.

No poker-player’s library should be without Mike Caro’s classic book of game psychology. Tells are the little physical gestures that reveal what’s on an opponent’s mind. Caro, called “The Mad Genius of Poker,” shows you how to read the signs, pick out the bluffs, and reveal little of yourself. Here’s the book that lets you play the players.
