Sports Fact of the Day 2/2/2007

2/2/1975:
In a much-ballyhooed, made-for-TV tennis showdown, 22-year-old Jimmy Connors bests 36-year-old Rod Laver in four sets at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. It takes Laver the first two sets to adjust to the fast indoor carpet surface, but the crowd is solidly behind the two-time Grand Slam champion from Australia and he pushes Connors to the limit for the remainder of the three-hour match. He saves five match points in the 10th game of the fourth set before being broken in the 12th game to end it.
