Sports Fact of the Day 2/1/2007

2/1/1987:
For the fifth time in only 13 seasons, Notre Dame upsets a top-ranked team at home in South Bend. Today's victim is North Carolina, 60-58, as the Irish rally from a 16-point deficit to snap a 16-game Tar Heel winning streak. Notre Dame guard David Rivers scores all of his 14 points in the second half to lead the late surge, which is further fueled by a frenzied home crowd at the Athletic and Convocation Center. After the tide turns and the Irish establish control in the final minute, they're assessed a technical foul for a shower of placards and pompoms tossed on the court by the jubilant gallery.
