Sports Fact and Book Rec of the Day 12/01/2007
12/1/1984:
Doug Flutie leads Boston College to a 45-10 rout of Holy Cross this afternoon before flying to New York to receive the Heisman Trophy at the Downtown Athletic Club. Despite his size (5'10", 175 pounds), Flutie became the first collegian to pass for more than 10,000 yards in a career. His game-winning pass to Gerard Phelan to beat Miami only a week ago is already the stuff of legend. He'll lead BC to a 10-2 season, including a win over Houston in the Cotton Bowl.

The Kite Runner was adored by critics and gobbled up by reading groups. The New York Times Book Review raved, “powerful...haunting.” People called it “extraordinary.” The Chicago Tribune said it’s “evocative...and genuine.” It’s a coming-of-age story set in Afghanistan just before the revolution of the 1970s. So many critics and fans can’t be wrong. What are you waiting for?
