Missing my mom today...

My mom has been gone for almost 16 years now. I miss her frequently, rarely a day goes by that I don't at least think of her. Especially living here in Fargo where she grew up it's hard to avoid. There are some days, however, where I miss her more than others.

Today is one of them.

I still remember the first, and last, Mother's Day card I got from my mother after I'd had Stephanie. Stephanie was only 3 months old. I can't tell you what the picture on the card was but the insert said "The best thing about being a mother is that you can read your favorite stories again." I want to say the picture on the front of the card was from my favorite book as a child, GOODNIGHT MOON.

Well, I just got an order from Amazon this morning. In it were two books I plan on giving my nephews for Christmas and a copy of GOODNIGHT MOON. I'd had one, but it was lost. So, before Claire's nap today we read GOODNIGHT MOON. Claire was all about finding the mouse in each of the colored pictures, something I remember doing with my mother as a little girl. And with Stephanie when she was a little girl.

It's funny how certain things stand the test of time, certain books never go out of style.

So, I found myself closing the book, missing my mom because I knew that my mom could appreciate Claire's excitement as much as I could.
