June 2007 Reads
For anyone who hasn't figured it out, I'm a reader. I love to read. And I was really looking forward to 2007, coming off over 130 books read in 2006. That's an average of over 2 a week!
So, I'm disappointed to admit until June I'd only read 2 books, both in May:
PLAYING GAMES by Dianne Drake (contemporary romance, January 2005)
MURDER OF A SMALL-TOWN HONEY by Denise Swanson (contemporary mystery, April 2001)
At the beginning of June, I read STRANGE BEDFELLOWS by Kasey Michaels (contemporary romance, August 1997)
Nothing's grabbing my attention like Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark series and J.D. Robb's Eve Dallas series did last year. Usually, that's what gives me a spurt, I get so engrossed in something I MUST move onto the next book.
So, I returned to some ol' faithful / comfort books for me: Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I managed to get the first five read in the last week of June:
GUILTY PLEASURES
LAUGHING CORPSE
CIRCUS OF THE DAMNED
THE LUNATIC CAFE
BLOODY BONES
I'm more than halfway through KILLING DANCE as I write this on the morning of July 1. I admit, I haven't been thrilled with the books after OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY, but I've been willing to give LKH a chance. My biggest gripe of the books post-OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY is the lack of Edward! The ardeur bugs me at times, but I realize it's a plot point that isn't going to just go away tomorrow. So, I'm willing to ride it as Anita is. But the lack of Edward goodness really bugs me, cuz Edward rocks ;-)
So, I'm off to a better start heading into July, I hope the tide continues. I may just have to pick up my other comfort series: Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. Between these two series, I should be rocking 'n rolling to a better "read" count in 2007 than I was on target for before picking up Anita Blake.
Cheers!
Susan
