Sports Fact & Book Rec of the Day 6/4/2007
6/4/1913:
Ardent suffragette Emily Davison sacrifices her life to dramatize the cause of women's rights when she runs onto the race course during the Epsom Derby in London and is trampled by the king's own horse, Anmer. Her impulsive act, which caused internal injuries that led to her death four days later, was so horrifying to the onlookers that it may actually have hurt the suffragist movement in Great Britain.

Were you once a boy? Are you raising one now? If you can answer yes to either of these questions, then please do not miss the opportunity to read Mark Salzman’s memoir of his childhood. It’s a wonderfully written, funny, and sharp look into the mind-set of a quirky and intelligent adolescent boy.
